Maths Week 2021

We have had a very busy Maths filled week this week as it was Maths week! It was great to do lots of different Maths activities.

On Monday we started Maths week by joining a Webinar with Andrew Jeffrey called ‘Maths Rocks’ where he showed us some mathematical tricks and surprises that we never knew about!

We created some Maths questions instead of answering them for a change! Test yourself and see if you can answer our impressive questions!

On Tuesday we looked for examples of Maths in the environment as part of our homework.

On Thursday we joined another webinar where we took part in a ‘Mega Quiz’ hosted by Franz Schlindwein along with around 350 other schools. We worked together as a class to figure out and submit our answers. Ms. Kidd was very impressed with everyone’s participation and determination to solve all the problems.

Minecraft Education Edition

6th class can’t believe their luck that they get to play Minecraft (Education Edition) in school over the next few weeks. We will be completing six Minecraft Education Edition lessons provided by Microsoft DreamSpace and RTÉ Learn where we will be learning new skills to prepare us for the ‘Ireland’s Future is MINE’ competition.

Microsoft Dream Space was developed to provide STEM experiences for pupils to enhance their STEM skills along with developing social-emotional skills such as empathy, creativity, ethical decision making and collaboration. Using Minecraft Education Edition, the children can incorporate and enhance these skills through a range of subject areas such as science, geography, history, mathematics and literacy! It really is a win, win!

This week’s lesson was all about biomes and sustainability. The children planned and designed their dream sustainable home.

Bug Hunt

We have been learning all about animals in geography and science recently. We decided to predict, observe and investigate what animals live in our school yard. There was great excitement, laughs and screams when searching for the minibeasts. Our main priority was to ensure we did not harm any animals while investigating them.

6th class have been working extremely hard throughout September on a project looking at the history of All Saints’ Church, as well as its living community and activities. We were invited by the Church of Ireland Centre in DCU and the United Dioceses of Dublin & Glendalough to participate in an exhibition called ‘Living History, Living Faith’. Our project will be part of the live exhibition in Christ Church Cathedral and It will also be a part of a permanent online exhibition.

We really enjoyed working as a whole class to create a very informative and interesting project on All Saints’ Church.
