For the month of November 6th class were learning all about global warming, climate change and sustainability. They created amazing projects based on what they had learned. Well done 6th class!

We did a very cool science experiment which led to the creation of lava lamps.

First we mixed oil and water. The oil floated on top of the water because it is less dense or lighter than water. Next we added some food colouring. Food colouring has the same density as water so it sunk through the oil and mixed with the water. Then we added an effervescent tablet. We noticed that the tablet sunk to the bottom and started to dissolve in the water. A chemical reaction then occurred which produced a gas, carbon dioxide. Gas or air, is lighter than water so it floated to the top. The air bubbles brought some colored water with them to the top. When the air came out of the colored water blob, the water got heavy again and sunk back to the bottom. This process occurred over and over again until the tablet was completely dissolved.

As part of Science Week this week we went on a trip to Edenmore Park where we created Animal Dens. The children worked in groups of 3/4 to consider what spot in the park would be the best to construct the den and what materials would be best to use for the walls and roof. We had great fun spending time in the outdoors working together!

6th class made a drama called ‘The Restaurant’ as part of our theme on food. We worked really hard when creating the drama . We had great fun and plenty of laughs while recording it.

We are super proud of our Halloween haunted houses. We continued working on our colour mixing, this time focusing on tints and shades of particular colours.
